This new book discusses the new developments and technologies in cardiovascular interventions. It starts with a section on the ethical dimensions of surgical and interventional learning curves, followed by simulator developments in endovascular procedures. The obvious change from morphological to functional radiology within the cardiovascular field is addressed. Minimally invasive aortic valve implantation is a new and fascinating technology and endovascular treatment of type A aortic dissection is close to clinical application. Critical issues like aortic arch repair and endovascular treatment in connective tissue diseases are described and discussed. In addition, the latest developments in juxta-renal, descending thoracic and thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysms are addressed. Crucial discussions in carotid artery pathology highlight decision making in asymptomatic lesions, acute ischemic stroke management, guidelines in carotid stenting and the role of embolic protection. Treatment of visceral and renal arteries also requires critical appraisal when balancing conservative treatment, open surgery and endovascular modalities. Finally, the management of peripheral arterial disease faces multiple innovative advances including pro-angiogenic cytokines, new recanalization techniques, drug eluting stents and balloons as well as new thrombolysis strategies. Abstract

Contents Vascular innovations and the ethical dimension of learning curves Simulator development in visceral and vascular interventions From morphological to functional vascular radiology Therapeutic angiogenesis for critical peripheral vascular disease Tissue engineering: innovative strategies towards living implants Transapical aortic valve implantation: procedural steps The role of endovascular surgery in ascending aortic dissection Endovascular aortic arch repair Open or endovascular repair in connective tissue disease? Endovascular treatment of juxtaand pararenal aneurysms Development of bioactive vascular devices Preventing early re-intervention after after endovascular aortic repair When and how to treat asymptomatic carotid disease? Acute ischemic stroke management: role and moment of surgery Carotid stenting: do we have guidelines based on trials and registries? Innovations in the management of atherosclerotic renal occlusive disease New techniques in arterial recanalization Drug eluting stents and drug eluting balloons for infra-inguinal occlusive disease Thrombolysis for acute and chronic arterial occlusion Popliteal artery aneurysm and popliteal artery entrapment syndrome
