Abstract

In the field of Structural Health Monitoring, it is nowadays well-known that environmental factors influence in different ways, but often deeply, the behavior of structures in terms of variations of modal parameters. In the present paper a simplified continuum model for the vertical vibrations of suspension bridges is used with the purpose of analyzing and quantifying aeroelastic effects on bridge eigenfrequencies. Some remarks on the feasibility of damage detection by using frequency shifts are finally presented.
