Enucleation consists in removing all the ocular structures from the orbit. Indications for surgery are painful ocular diseases unresponsive to treatments such as traumatic injuries, chronic corneal ulceration, panophthalmitis, end-stage uveitis and neoplasia. The procedure can be performed in anesthetized or standing horses but complications associated with general anesthesia and the advantages in terms of time, costs and facilities requirements, make the standing technique preferred. The purpose of this study is to describe the surgical technique, the cosmetic results and the outcome of silicone prosthesis application in standing horses.
