The general features of collisional autoionization processes involving metastable rare gas atoms studied in recent years are outlined. For atom-atom system the role of the spin-orbit state of the metastable atom in determining the dynamics of the ionization of rare gas atoms is reported as it results from recent experimental studies. For atom-molecule systems, the cases where a weak interaction between the two partners is present both before and after the ionization event are discussed with reference to the Ne*-N2 example. The other case is then considered of atom-molecule systems where a chemical interaction affects the ionization dynamics either before or after the ionization event.

Abstract
The general features of collisional autoionization processes involving metastable rare gas atoms studied in recent years are outlined. For atom-atom system the role of the spin-orbit state of the metastable atom in determining the dynamics of the ionization of rare gas atoms is reported as it results from recent experimental studies. For atom-molecule systems, the cases where a weak interaction between the two partners is present both before and after the ionization event are discussed with reference to the Ne*-N2 example. The other case is then considered of atom-molecule systems where a chemical interaction affects the ionization dynamics either before or after the ionization event.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
