La memoria racchiude l’identità dell’uomo e, da sempre, la rappresentazione è lo strumento d’elezione che l’uomo usa per realizzare la propria identità attraverso la costruzione della memoria. Infatti, nell’atto della rappresentazione si esprimono le tre azioni connotative della memoria: archiviare, ovvero immagazzinare le informazioni percepite; ricordare, ovvero riportare in vita le informazioni archiviate sotto forma di immagini; obliare, ovvero trattenere soltanto le informazioni essenziali e rimuovere tutte quelle superflue. Così, ogni rappresentazione è al contempo l’archivio di un segmento della conoscenza, il ricordo visivo di un sapere ritenuto ‘memorabile’ e la testimonianza dell’oblio di tutto ciò che non è stato trascritto graficamente. Ovvero, nella rappresentazione si realizza il sistema delle connessioni tra l’uomo e la propria identità. Questo contributo intende attraversare il complesso rapporto interdisciplinare che lega la memoria (e quindi l’identità dell’uomo) alla rappresentazione, mediante il tracciamento di un filo conduttore che unisce una serie di immagini eterogenee di cui si propone una lettura unitaria. Un filo che vede rappresentazione e memoria accomunate da modalità operative ed esiti funzionali coerenti, rintracciabili nella capacità di archiviazione della conoscenza, nel valore di sostegno al ricordo e nella necessità dell’oblio. In fact, in the act of representing the three connotative actions of memory are expressed: archiving, that is to say storing the perceived information; remembering, that is to say bringing back to life the information stored in the form of images; obliging, that is to say choosing only the essential information and removing all the superfluous ones. Thus, each representation is at the same time the archive of a segment of knowledge, the visual memory of a knowledge considered “memorable” and the testimony of the oblivion of everything that has not been graphically transcribed. That is, in representation the system of connections between man and his own identity is realized. This contribution aims to cross the complex and interdisciplinary relationship that links memory (and therefore man’s identity) to representation, through the tracing of a connecting thread that unites a series of heterogeneous images of which a unitary reading is proposed. A thread that sees representation and memory joined together by coherent operational modalities and functional outcomes, traceable in the capacity to store knowledge, in the value of support to memory and the necessity of oblivion.
