In a brief service note, the Author returns to the notion of “popular medicine”, a subject on which he has spoken several times in particular in relation to the parallel work of two famous Italian anthropologists: Alfonso M. di Nola and Tullio Seppilli. The aim is to strengthen the critical contribution made in particular by Seppilli to the opening of this category for Italian medical anthropology. Examining Seppillian anthropological reflection on the subject and reviewing the works by Ernesto de Martino, it happens that the critical opening of this notion seems to offer new possibilities for a criticalpolitical reading of the popular. These objectives were successfully achieved by Tullio Seppilli with the foundation of contemporary medical anthropology.
