Tricuspid valve (TV) dysplasia is uncommon in the horse. References concerning this cardiopathy describe only two cases in which the valvular abnormality was associated to other congenital cardiac defects. We refer clinical and pathological findings in a 13-years-old male horse presented because of poor performance. Physical examination revealed signs of right-sided congestive heart failure. Electocardigram showed atrial fibrillation. Echocardiography revealed severe right-side heart enlargement with a small septal leaflet of the TV partially adherent to the myocardium, resulting in incomplete closure of the valve during ventricular systole. Autopsy confirmed right-side cardiac enlargement and tricuspidal septal leaflet adhesion to myocardium with mild ventricular displacement of the valvular origin. To our knowledge this is the first report about isolated TV dysplasia in the horse.
