Naso-pharyngeal collapse is an inspiratory upper airway disturbance that causes respiratory noise and poor performance in athletic horses. It has been suggested that this pathologic condition is determined by neuromuscular dysfunction. Sihler stain was used in this study to evaluate the three-dimensional distribution of nerve supply in dorso-lateral muscles of horse pharynx. The results described in this work could lead to a better comprehension of etio-pathogenesis of pharyngeal collapse and to the definition of new therapeutic strategies.

Abstract
Naso-pharyngeal collapse is an inspiratory upper airway disturbance that causes respiratory noise and poor performance in athletic horses. It has been suggested that this pathologic condition is determined by neuromuscular dysfunction. Sihler stain was used in this study to evaluate the three-dimensional distribution of nerve supply in dorso-lateral muscles of horse pharynx. The results described in this work could lead to a better comprehension of etio-pathogenesis of pharyngeal collapse and to the definition of new therapeutic strategies.File in questo prodotto:
