This paper presents a comparison among three of the mostly used velocity measurement techniques applied in experimental fluid dynamics: Hot Wire Anemometry (HWA), Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The comparison is done on a fully developed turbulent jet. The measurements are processed in time and in space, according to the different nature of the measurement techniques. Results expressed in terms of velocity plots, turbulent fluctuations and integral length scales are compared. The different capabilities of the three techniques are discussed, their complementarily is outlined, also related to the uncertainty and resolution of the three measurement techniques.

Abstract
This paper presents a comparison among three of the mostly used velocity measurement techniques applied in experimental fluid dynamics: Hot Wire Anemometry (HWA), Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The comparison is done on a fully developed turbulent jet. The measurements are processed in time and in space, according to the different nature of the measurement techniques. Results expressed in terms of velocity plots, turbulent fluctuations and integral length scales are compared. The different capabilities of the three techniques are discussed, their complementarily is outlined, also related to the uncertainty and resolution of the three measurement techniques.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
