WordNet is the large electronic lexical database developed by G.A.Miller. In this paper the authors analyse the cognitive theory of metaphor by Lakoff and Johnson and address the issue of what is encoded on metaphoric expressions in a WordNet-like resource, i.e. ItalWordNet. The analysis is based on Italian verb 'colpire' and the noun 'colpo'.
