We present an update of the optical light curve of ON 231 in the R (Cousins) bandpass from the great outburst of Spring 1998 to June 2001. The relationship between the variation amplitude and the corresponding time scale show that during the outburst the brightness changes were greater and faster than in other less active phases. We suggest that this behaviour can be explained by a change of the mean beaming factor.

Abstract

We present an update of the optical light curve of ON 231 in the R (Cousins) bandpass from the great outburst of Spring 1998 to June 2001. The relationship between the variation amplitude and the corresponding time scale show that during the outburst the brightness changes were greater and faster than in other less active phases. We suggest that this behaviour can be explained by a change of the mean beaming factor.
