we have investigating the comparative immunologic abd pharmacologic effects of human leukocyte interferon (HuIFN-alfa) by intramuscolar (I.M.), intravenous (I.V.), and intra-arterial (I.A.) routes in patients with neoplasia. Peaj titers are higher after I.V. administration, but titers are more sustained after I.M. administration. Significant hepatic and/or tumor absorption occurred after I.A. and 9 x 10E6 units I.M. have been given without problem for durations of 14-21 days. No limiting toxicity by the I.V. or I.A. riute has yet been identified. Althought serum glutamic oxaloacetic transferase (SGOT) rises ina few patient after I.M. administration, direct intrahepatic infusion by I.A. route has resulted in no hepatic toxixity. NK cell activity of normal individuals ad individulas witj malignancy can be augmented in vistro for both fresh leukemia cells and various vrll lines (K-562, Chang). Significant augmentationon NK cell activity for allogenic tumor targets also occurs in patients receiving HuINF-alfa
