Bioreacotr landfill seems to be one of the most suitable solutions for managing mechanically treated residual waste in areas that lacks of incinerators. In this work the preliminary results concerning the effect of the leachate recirculation for the mechanically sorted organic fraction of Municipal Solid Waste disposed in anaerobic Bioreactor landfill are represented. Leachate recirculation seems to have a very positive effect both on anaerobic biological process optimization and biomethane production. A strong reduction trend in COD and BOD5 values has been noted together with a relevant heavy metals concentration reduction.
