The aim of the paper is to investigate both individual and country level determinants of disparities in self-reported poor health among E.U. coun-tries, looking at the role of migrant status and migrants policies as deter-minants of health inequalities. The first aim is to verify if the status of foreign citizen continues to be an autonomous determinant of poor health as highlighted by existing evidence on socio-economic inequalities in health in the E.U. ( refs>). The second and more important objective is to empirically estimate if and how countries migrants policies affect the health of the population in these countries. This latter objective is novel, as so far there is no empiri-cal evidence on the role of countries migrant policies in socio-economic inequalities in health. The issue appears to be particularly relevant in a context of economic recession where vulnerable social groups as the mi-grant population face higher risk to fall into unemployment and poverty
