In this paper we will refer mainly to the LLP project BRIDGE-IT (510101-LLP-1-2010-1-IT-GRUNDTVIG-GMP - http://bridge-it.communicationproject.eu) coordinated by the Author for the University of Perugia. The acronym stands for “Be Relevant to Intercultural Diversity Generation in Europe – Integration Team”. The project tackles intercultural communication problems between civil servants and migrants in bureaucratic-institutional settings of ‘first-impact’ situations. The issues presented here can be collocated within the framework of mainly qualitative sociolinguistics applied to the educational purpose of creating on-line learning events for intercultural communication within institutional settings. The project uses an interdisciplinary approach guaranteed by a multidisciplinary partnership. Ten recommendations for successful communication within the mentioned context are presented and a sample analysis of service interactions is given. The project’s research perspective is presented for the designing of on-line Learning Events both for civil servants and for migrants.
