The twenty chapters of Best Practice in Vascular Procedures cover the wide spectrum of daily vascular activities. The first part of the book describes the surgical and endovascular techniques of carotid artery revascularization, followed by evidence-based strategies for symptomatic and asymptomatic carotid artery disease. The second part concentrates on lower limb arterial bypass surgery and endovascular revascularization in critical limb ischemia. Guidelines for open and endovascular treatment and the management of the diabetic foot complement the subject of critical limb ischemia. Following, treatment of thoracic aortic pathology is addressed: open and endovascular treatment of type A dissection, innovative treatment of arch aneurysms, surgical and endoluminal management of descending and thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysms. Subsequently, open and endovascular surgery of infra- and suprarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms are described in detail, followed by endovascular strategies in acute and ruptured aneurysms. Based on existing scientific evidence, guidelines for abdominal aortic aneurysms are defined. The last part of this textbook consists of four subjects which play a major role in the future of our vascular activities: the ideal educational curriculum, centralization of vascular procedures, cost-effectiveness of interventions and finally the hybrid operating room as our new working environment. Abstract

Contents How to perform carotid artery surgery How to perform endovascular carotid revascularization Best practice for asymptomatic carotid disease Best practice for symptomatic carotid disease Cruropedal reconstructions in peripheral arterial occlusive disease How to perform endovascular revascularizations Bypass versus angioplasty in severe ischemia of the leg (basil) trial Diabetic foot disease Open and endovascular treatment of type A dissection Innovative treatment of arch aneurysms Open and endovascular treatment of descending thoracic aneurysms Best practice in thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysm repair Open repair of infra- and suprarenal aortic aneurysms Endovascular repair of infra- and suprarenal aneurysms Endovascular treatment of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms Current practice and guidelines for AAA treatment The ideal educational curriculum of the vascular specialist Should vascular surgery be centralized? Cost-effectiveness of vascular procedures Hybrid operating room: the new working environment
