Hazelnut cultivation in Italy is mainly based on self rooted plants obtained with different propagation systems. The main disadvantage of this plantation technique are a high suckers emission at the base of the tree that requires maintenance costs, causes phytosanitary problem, makes difficult the mechanization of the species. The introduction of plants grafted on Corylus colurna may be a good opportunity to improve the efficiency of orchard management and to reduce the cultivation cost.
