This essay investigates the relationship between human rights and security, illustrating these aspects: a) the right to security as a human right, in the double meaning of personal security and social security; b) the interdependence between promoting human rights and increasing human security; c) the centrality of the security issue in the global geopolitical chessboard and the securitization of national internal policies, in their consequences in terms of the compression of rights; c) migratory flows, in their relationship with the denial of human rights in crisis areas and the different dimensions of security; d) prospects for the future.
