According to Herodotus (I 72) some scholars believe that Cilicia spread northwards across the Halys river, and that only at the end of the 5th century B.C. the famous “Cilician Gates” became the frontoer with Cappadocia. Instead my suggestion is that as far back as the 6th century B.C. the Taurus ridge was the frontier between the two satrapies, as in Herodotus (V 52) Royal Road’s description, which is based on a persian itinerary, seems to show.

Abstract
According to Herodotus (I 72) some scholars believe that Cilicia spread northwards across the Halys river, and that only at the end of the 5th century B.C. the famous “Cilician Gates” became the frontoer with Cappadocia. Instead my suggestion is that as far back as the 6th century B.C. the Taurus ridge was the frontier between the two satrapies, as in Herodotus (V 52) Royal Road’s description, which is based on a persian itinerary, seems to show.File in questo prodotto:
