This essay is dedicated to the Saint Nicholas in Glory (1527-1529), painted by Lorenzo Lotto for the church of Santa Maria dei Carmini in Venice. After presenting the iconographic peculiarities of the canvas, this essay highlights the figure of the Carmelite general, Nicholas Audeth (1524-1562), a French friar born in Cyprus in 1481. Nicholas Audeth, personally involved in supporting the restoration of the Carmini, played a fundamental role in fostering the diplomatic commitment of the Carmelite between the Holy Land, Venice and Europe. The altarpiece of the Carmini, commissioned just after the election of the Cypriot friar to the generalate, was therefore a tribute to Nicholas Audeth. In the face of San Nicola painted by Lorenzo Lotto, it is proposed to recognize a crypto-portrait of the friar.

Abstract
This essay is dedicated to the Saint Nicholas in Glory (1527-1529), painted by Lorenzo Lotto for the church of Santa Maria dei Carmini in Venice.
