Peritextual elements are key elements and multifunctional units in journalistic texts guiding readers’ comprehension and interpretation. This paper aims at exploring the complex translation process of these peritextual elements focusing on translation strate- gies and editing. It also deals with the various kinds of textual manipulations carried out according to the needs of the target medium and to the editorial stylistic norms. The study is based upon a corpus of peritextual elements from the Italian magazine Internazionale, both in their original French version and in their Italian translation. Textual manipulations of headlines, subheadings and column titles are described and analysed to observe the way they work as a coherent system.

Abstract
Peritextual elements are key elements and multifunctional units in journalistic texts guiding readers’ comprehension and interpretation. This paper aims at exploring the complex translation process of these peritextual elements focusing on translation strate- gies and editing. It also deals with the various kinds of textual manipulations carried out according to the needs of the target medium and to the editorial stylistic norms. The study is based upon a corpus of peritextual elements from the Italian magazine Internazionale, both in their original French version and in their Italian translation. Textual manipulations of headlines, subheadings and column titles are described and analysed to observe the way they work as a coherent system.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
