Investigating Italian cultural diplomacy in the Middle East during the Cold War is a demanding task, considering the scarcity of archival sources. However, some reading keys are available to scholars. In particular, the first half of the 1970s can be linked directly to the cultural policy promoted in the Middle East by Aldo Moro, whose characteristics remained unchanged in the following years. The cultural policy promoted by Moro in North Africa and the Middle East between the late 1960s and the early 1970s, when the Christian Democrat statesman held the offices of prime minister and foreign minister on several occasions, was part of a process which had started immediately after the Second World War, when cultural soft power became an important tool for Italy’s foreign policy.

Abstract
Investigating Italian cultural diplomacy in the Middle East during the Cold War is a demanding task, considering the scarcity of archival sources. However, some reading keys are available to scholars. In particular, the first half of the 1970s can be linked directly to the cultural policy promoted in the Middle East by Aldo Moro, whose characteristics remained unchanged in the following years. The cultural policy promoted by Moro in North Africa and the Middle East between the late 1960s and the early 1970s, when the Christian Democrat statesman held the offices of prime minister and foreign minister on several occasions, was part of a process which had started immediately after the Second World War, when cultural soft power became an important tool for Italy’s foreign policy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
