This essay contains a twofold survey on the field of the early Sabellic linguistic and epigraphic documentation. First, it revises the mid-7th Century BC inscription on the Uppsala vase, shedding light on its text as the Sabine equivalent of the Latin formula ‘ex-voto’. Second, on the basis of the analysis of material and writing features, it discloses a clear relationship between the Uppsala vase and the contemporary amphora from Capena carrying the so-called Capena Alphabet, allowing to clarify them as products of the same pottery. This very fortunate combination provides us with a direct insight into the relation between the theoretical alphabetical inventory and its practical use in a single Sabellian-speaking context, leading to significant advances in understanding the early trasmission process of the Euboic alphabet to the peoples of ancient Italy.
