Perambula pelo Rio de Janeiro e testemunha, aparentemente de forma destacada, a desagregação social e a falência democrática, manifesta em cenas de violência contra pobres, negros, mulheres, mendigos. Desencantado e incapaz de se opor à deriva democrática, ele busca sobreviver em meio ao caos, fechando-se si mesmo. Será esse o romance possível sobre o Brasil de hoje, será o retrato de um país que está abdicando da democracia? A partir dessas questões, propõe-se a análise do romance e das estratégias narrativas utilizadas para questionar o papel da literatura e do intelectual hoje.

Disappointed and unable to oppose the democracy drift, he tries to survive in this chaos, hiding his inner feelings.
