The increasing awareness of the cultural heritage definition, together with the dissemination of interpretation practices more and more linked to digital environments, has imprinted in recent decades an acceleration on heritage studies, which are inalienably based on the use of images and consequently on the construction of imaginaries capable of handing down history and memory to future generations. From this perspective, this contribution assumes as a case study the ongoing research activity on Umbrian fortified buildings within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Perugia.

L’acquisizione di consapevolezza della definizione di patrimonio culturale, unita alla diffusione di pratiche di interpretazione sempre più legate agli ambienti digitali, ha impresso negli ultimi decenni un’accelerazione agli studi sul patrimonio, che sono irrinunciabilmente fondati sull’utilizzo delle immagini e di conseguenza sulla costruzione di immaginari capaci di tramandare la storia e la memoria alle generazioni future. In tale ottica, questo contributo assume come caso studio l’attività di ricerca in corso all’interno del Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile e Ambientale dell’Università degli Studi di Perugia sulle architetture fortificate umbre.
