The volume collects a large portion of the contributions presented during the 2nd Italian-Spanish Seminar on Library and Information Science, held on November 4-5, 2022 at Sapienza University of Rome. The seminar, which reached its second edition (the first was held online in October 2020, coordinated by the Madrid-based universities Complutense and Carlos III), was organized in collaboration with Italian and Spanish universities, together with the Italian Society of Bibliographic and Library Science (SISBB), with the aim of providing a general and comparative overview of the state of Library Science, Information Science in Spain and Italy. Among the topics addressed during the 2nd Seminar, we can mention the digitization of historical collections, artificial intelligence in libraries, doctoral training, the representation of objects in new cataloging contexts, and the evolving role of libraries in the digital age, with contributions from Italian and Spanish scholars and librarians. The initiative represented an important opportunity to improve the relations between Italy and Spain in the field of Library Science and Information Science.

Il volume raccoglie gran parte dei contributi presentati nel corso del II Seminario italo-spagnolo di Biblioteconomia e Documentazione, tenutosi il 4-5 novembre 2022 presso la Sapienza Università di Roma. Il seminario, giunto alla sua seconda edizione (la prima si è tenuta online nell’ottobre del 2020 coordinata dalle università madrilene Complutense e Carlos III) è stato organizzato in collaborazione con università italiane e spagnole, insieme alla Società italiana di scienze bibliografiche e biblioteconomiche (SISBB) con l’obiettivo di offrire una panoramica generale e comparativa dello stato della Biblioteconomia, della Scienze dell’Informazione e del Libro in Spagna e in Italia. Tra i temi trattati durante il II Seminario ricordiamo la digitalizzazione delle collezioni storiche, l’intelligenza artificiale nelle biblioteche, la formazione dottorale, la rappresentazione degli oggetti in nuovi contesti catalografici e molto altro, con interventi di studiosi e bibliotecari italiani e spagnoli. L’iniziativa ha rappresentato un’importante occasione per migliorare le relazioni tra Italia e Spagna nel campo della Biblioteconomia e della Scienza dell’Informazione e del Libro.
