A reading of the ballad Kassandra, written in 1802 by the German playwright and poet Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805), will be the focus of this contribution. With reference to the philosophical and literary investigation made by the author about the categories of the modern and the old, this contribution aims at exploring the passage from a general to a more particular – and more subjective – perspective expressed by Cassandra. With particular reference to the subjectivity featuring this female character and by means of an intertextual approach, the voice of Schiller’s prophetess Cassandra will be compared with the character of the «Maid of Orléans», from the homonymous Schillerian play, as well as with Christa Wolf’s Kassandra (1983).

Abstract
A reading of the ballad Kassandra, written in 1802 by the German playwright and poet Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805), will be the focus of this contribution. With reference to the philosophical and literary investigation made by the author about the categories of the modern and the old, this contribution aims at exploring the passage from a general to a more particular – and more subjective – perspective expressed by Cassandra. With particular reference to the subjectivity featuring this female character and by means of an intertextual approach, the voice of Schiller’s prophetess Cassandra will be compared with the character of the «Maid of Orléans», from the homonymous Schillerian play, as well as with Christa Wolf’s Kassandra (1983).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
