The aim of this chapter is to propose an alternative approach to teaching geography in primary schools. Instead of relying on a prescribed curriculum structured around sequential topics, this approach focuses on using objects from pupils’ everyday lives as a foundation for exploring and teaching geographical concepts. Through the analysis of these objects, pupils can gain insights into their composition, the origin of raw materials, manufacturing processes, and more. The main purpose of this approach is to foster pupils’ geographical thinking, enabling them to better understand the organization of the world around them, and to be actively involved in it.

Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to propose an alternative approach to teaching geography in primary schools. Instead of relying on a prescribed curriculum structured around sequential topics, this approach focuses on using objects from pupils’ everyday lives as a foundation for exploring and teaching geographical concepts. Through the analysis of these objects, pupils can gain insights into their composition, the origin of raw materials, manufacturing processes, and more. The main purpose of this approach is to foster pupils’ geographical thinking, enabling them to better understand the organization of the world around them, and to be actively involved in it.
