Utilization of flow and microflow electrochemical devices is herein overviewed with focus on the societal and economical aspect toward sustainability. General configurations of flow electrochemical reactors are described allowing understanding of basic electrode materials and geometry of the reactors and their own benefits and pitfalls. Fields of application as organic electrosynthesis, analytical electrochemistry, water purification and remediation, and energy conversion and storage are also presented leading to concise comprehension of the utilization of electrochemical flow devices in these sectors.
