Flow photochemical approaches are herein presented focusing on fundamentals and general aspects of this outstanding technology. Reactor design and geometry are presented to allow the understanding of basic concept as well as the importance in proper selection of light sources and reaction media. Fields of application in organic synthesis, material sciences and purification from air and water contaminants have been overviewed with ad hoc examples that highlight intrinsic sustainability aspects in the use and development of flow photochemical systems.
