Trout hatcheries are suitable environments for abundant Trichoptera colonization. In this study we examined the symbionts of a large population of Allogamus antennatus ausoniae found in a trout hatchery located in the upper stretch of the River Nera (Marche, Italy). The larvae show a high number of symbionts, mainly protozoans both ciliates and sporozoans. We especially investigated Peritrichs (Epystilis breviramosa,Epystilis rotans, Vorticella convallaria) and Gregarines (Gregarina limnophili, Gregarina stenophylacis, Pileocephalus lanceatus). The intensity of infestation and the percentage of infested larvae increase in the holding tanks located down-stream. The morphology and ultrastructure of these symbionts were also studied.
