Abstract
A large fraction of the damping width of the giant-dipole resonance in a hot nucleus arises from the coupling of the giant vibration to thermal fluctuations of the nuclear surface. It is expected, on general grounds, that this coupling displays a marked dependence on the temperature, becoming progressively less effective as T increases over a critical value, estimated to be ,~ 1 MeVFile in questo prodotto:
