A group of Italian research institutes is working on a project for a new infrared imaging camera operating in the range 8-14 microns. The detector is a hybrid array of Si:Ga, 10 x 64 pixels. This instrument will operate initially at the Italian Infrared Telescope TIRGO, providing a gain of 2-3 magnitudes in comparison with the 12-micron IRAS sensitivity. Higher resolution and gain of 1,000-10,000 in the observing time with respect to present-date single detector bolometers will also be obtained.

Abstract
A group of Italian research institutes is working on a project for a new infrared imaging camera operating in the range 8-14 microns. The detector is a hybrid array of Si:Ga, 10 x 64 pixels. This instrument will operate initially at the Italian Infrared Telescope TIRGO, providing a gain of 2-3 magnitudes in comparison with the 12-micron IRAS sensitivity. Higher resolution and gain of 1,000-10,000 in the observing time with respect to present-date single detector bolometers will also be obtained.File in questo prodotto:
