This paper deals with the issue of territorial identity in relation to the production of wine and proposes some indicators of identity (the border; the history and the land; the landscape; the role of local actors) in order to reflect on the relation between territorial identity and improvement of local resources. More specifically, the analysis focuses on the reconstruction and development of identity in the territory of Montefalco (Umbria), with particular reference to the process of enhancing the Sagrantino wine. The research aims to underline the importance of a shared recovery course of territorial identity implemented by the synergy between private and public actors. In this way the identity, built on account of specific objectives, becomes a instrument fit to reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of a production area (of wine, in this case) and to promote the dialogue between local actors in a process directed towards the settlement of the interventions.

Abstract
This paper deals with the issue of territorial identity in relation to the production of wine and proposes some indicators of identity (the border; the history and the land; the landscape; the role of local actors) in order to reflect on the relation between territorial identity and improvement of local resources. More specifically, the analysis focuses on the reconstruction and development of identity in the territory of Montefalco (Umbria), with particular reference to the process of enhancing the Sagrantino wine. The research aims to underline the importance of a shared recovery course of territorial identity implemented by the synergy between private and public actors. In this way the identity, built on account of specific objectives, becomes a instrument fit to reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of a production area (of wine, in this case) and to promote the dialogue between local actors in a process directed towards the settlement of the interventions.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
