The objective of this paper is to discuss a novel application of the Implicit Association Test to linguistic categorization and cognitive semantic testing in English. It measures the differential association of two target concepts with an attribute. There are three parameters of evaluation: the IAT effect, Cohen’s d, and the D measure. We have used the IAT to see how individuals: activate parallel processing categorizing basic colors, (GREEN, BLUE, YELLOW, and RED) in relation to the attributes of PLEASANT and UNPLEASANT; and how individuals associate a more complex mapping between LIGHT and DARK targets with the spatial attributes NEAR and FAR and ON and OFF, revealing cognitive entrenchment of the semantic relations.

Abstract
The objective of this paper is to discuss a novel application of the Implicit Association Test to linguistic categorization and cognitive semantic testing in English. It measures the differential association of two target concepts with an attribute. There are three parameters of evaluation: the IAT effect, Cohen’s d, and the D measure. We have used the IAT to see how individuals: activate parallel processing categorizing basic colors, (GREEN, BLUE, YELLOW, and RED) in relation to the attributes of PLEASANT and UNPLEASANT; and how individuals associate a more complex mapping between LIGHT and DARK targets with the spatial attributes NEAR and FAR and ON and OFF, revealing cognitive entrenchment of the semantic relations.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
