Functionalized graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets were produced by using a reaction between butylamine (BAM) and GO in water. Such alkyl-functionalized GO nanosheets show an improved dispersion in water resulting in the deposition of extended chemically derived GO sheets with lower sheet resistance with respect to the GO deposited from separate BAM and water dispersions, respectively. It was found that the addition of such aqueous dispersion of alkylated GO nanosheets to poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene: poly(styrenesulfonate) polymer enhances the electrical conductivity without any detrimental effect on the optical transparency of the polymer, which suggests that this method is a potential technique for developing functional composites.
