γ-Valerolactone (GVL) is an excellent chemical derived from biomasses that can be effectively employed as reaction medium to replace toxic dipolar aprotic solvents such as DMF and NMP. Its efficiency has been studied in widely important palladium-catalyzed cross-couplings, such as Sonogashira, Heck, and Hiyama reactions obtaining highly satisfactory and novel results.
