The essay explores the mutual interrelations among space, narrative and comparative law. Moving from an historical and thematic analysis, the Author emphasizes the geopolitical potentialities of comparative legal studies, insofar as they give shape and form to the juridical order in a global dimension: the traditional political geography is transformed into a new kind of legal geography. On this basis the essay is intended to reassess the fundamental question of the construction of legal traditions. In particular, legal traditions are defined in terms of 'politics of memory', as governmental devices used to structure cultural memory. Each of them is qualified by a proper semantics and by a different bulk of practices used to detect and locate the canonical object of commemoration.
