Prediction of soil erosion at event temporal scale has practical importance because, for a given area, most of the erosion amount over a long time period is frequently due to a few severe erosion events. An empirical model, named CSI (Central and Southern Italy), for estimating event soil loss was recently developed using data collected on bare plots established at three Italian stations (Sparacia, Sicily; Masse, Umbria; Caratozzolo, Calabria). The empirical origin of the model implies the need to test its reliability using additional experimental data. In this paper, the CSI model is tested using all the available measurements carried out at Sparacia, Masse and Caratozzolo. The CSI model was corrected for taking into account an additional influence of the plot steepness on soil loss estimate, which was previously neglected. The original mathematical scheme of the model was confirmed. Finally, the model was recalibrated by maximizing the Nash-Sutcliffe index calculated using all the available data.
