Objectives: the article presents a survey carried out in a company of cables and electrical conductors for industrial use located in the centre of Italy wherein It’s been experimented the BBS protocol (Behavior- Based Safety). A management method that, through the use of behavioural indicators of effectiveness in the short and mid-term (checklists of observation), is able to constantly monitor the actual security performances. Methods: through the analysis of the risk assessment document (DVR) and the information concerning the previous accidents, two units with different production cycles have been identified and chosen. Questionnaires with sectorialized classes questions were given to workers in order to investigate on values, willingness to contribute to the safety management system, cognition and perception of risk, relationship among workmates and supervisors. Observation checklists have been made from the questionnaires’ data. Results: comparing the data of the two units, we can notice a marked difference between negative perceptions about safety and between percentages of positive feedbacks about the desire to contribute to the safety management system in the environment they belong to. Guidelines for the implementation of the Protocol and personalised checklists for the two units have been created and proposed to the company.
