Abstract
At the outbreak of the First World War Romanian Jews, suffering discrimination since the very foundation of the Romanian nation State, claimed their loyalty to it, in hopes of receiving a recognition of their contribution at the end of the conflict. At the same time, they took advantage of their contacts with the European and American philanthropic associations in order to put pressure on the Great Powers to convince the Romanian Government to end discrimination. At the conference of peace, the Romanian leaders strongly opposed the request to change the internal legislation. Only after an internal crisis, it eventually ceded, acknowledging citizenship to every national minority in the new Constitution of 1923.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
