Abstract

The retrofitting challenge for historical buildings consists of finding solutions that improve energy efficiency, preserving at the same time the buildings’ cultural and historical value. Italy, with its huge heritage, is one of the main beneficiaries of this new approach. The paper presents the dynamic simulation of one historical building in the city of Perugia, characterized by multi-storey constructions, close to each other, focusing therefore on shadow effects and paying particular attention to the influence of thermal bridges. The simulated building energy consumption results have been compared with the real data gathered from the users’ energy bills along three heating seasons.
