Glaucus of Rhegium is one of the earliest literary historians of ancient Greece. He was active at about the same time as Democritus, i.e. between the fifth and the early fourth century B.C. His most important book is entitled On Ancient Poets and Musicians; its principal fragments are to be found in the Plutarchan De musica. The ancient tradition also ascribes to him a book On Aeschylus’ Plots. I present here a new general essay on his activity as well as an Appendix containing an up-to-date collection of his fragments.
