Carbon dioxide is one of the most important greenhouse gases and is mainly produced by the use of fossil fuels. CO2 capture and storage provides an important solution to allow for continued use of fossil fuels power generation, whilst neutralizing their greenhouse gas emissions. A possible approach is to develop bioreactors capturing CO2 at gas emission site by exploiting the ability of immobilized enzymes to capture CO2. Evidence is provided that carbonic anhydrase can be obtained from a cheap and easily available source with low cost purification steps; its stability to immobilization make the enzyme an attractive tool to build a spray-reactor for CO2 capture.
