The actual response of structures equipped with control systems is influenced by control-structure interaction (CSI) effects, time delay and imperfection of actuation. This paper presents an accurate analytical modeling of the dynamic behavior of a multistory frame structure equipped with an Active Mass Driver with an electric torsional servomotor, reproducing a laboratorial set-up, adopted in previous studies by the Authors. The formulation accounts for CSI effects and time delay. The closed-loop stability conditions considering CSI are studied by investigation of the root-locus of the system and the effect of time delay on the system’s stability is evaluated by numerical analysis. Results show that the time delay dominates the system’s response, that is unstable beyond a certain critical time delay threshold.
