This paper presents some practical formulas for the design of combline and side-coupled coaxial cavity filters. Starting from the well known Cohn’s prototype for inline filters, a new prototype with a one to one correspondence to the physical structure is derived using the formulas provided. The latter have been used to derive some prototypes with different bandwidths showing their effectiveness. An example of filter has been designed and simulated by using Ansoft HFSS.

Abstract
