This paper considers the monitoring of integrated precipitable water vapour (IPWV) using measurements of Global Positioning System (GPS) ground-based receivers to analyse the behaviour of water vapour field before precipitation events. For this purpose, we will exploit also the estimation of Integrated Cloud Liquid (ICL) from a co-located water vapour radiometer (WVR). A classification of precipitation events on the basis of seasonal variability, time duration and rain rate has been performed to investigate the short term trends in IPWV GPS data and in the contemporary time series of cloud liquid content. Also, we analyse the possibility of detecting a qualitative criterion for monitoring the occurrence of precipitative systems.

Abstract
This paper considers the monitoring of integrated precipitable water vapour (IPWV) using measurements of Global Positioning System (GPS) ground-based receivers to analyse the behaviour of water vapour field before precipitation events. For this purpose, we will exploit also the estimation of Integrated Cloud Liquid (ICL) from a co-located water vapour radiometer (WVR). A classification of precipitation events on the basis of seasonal variability, time duration and rain rate has been performed to investigate the short term trends in IPWV GPS data and in the contemporary time series of cloud liquid content. Also, we analyse the possibility of detecting a qualitative criterion for monitoring the occurrence of precipitative systems.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
