Abstract
On 18 January 1566 the Emperor Maximilian II sent a letter to his ambassador in Venice to prevent the publishing of the Vita del Potentissimo, e Christianiss. Imperatore Ferdinando Primo (1565) by Alfonso de Ulloa. Investigation into the reason behind this urgent measure opens new lines of research around the figure of this «introductor de la cultura española en Italia», particularly along the Venice-Vienna axis that has received little attention. After many conjectures concrete proof that the Extremaduran was a “professional” spy has emerged from the archives. In the meantime, the question of the Vita opens new scenarios in which the protagonists are writers, perhaps rivals. This could be the case of Johannes Sambucus who, in another autograph document, reveals all «los herrores» in the works of Ulloa that might have determined the prohibition of the publication.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
