The survey briefly presents some of the results contained in two papers of mine, concerning the so called "degenerate" evolutionary Kirchhoff problems, that is problems in which the involved Kirchhoff function M can be zero at zero. In degenerate Kirchhoff problems the transverse oscillations of a stretched string, with nonlocal flexural rigidity, depends continuously on the Sobolev deflection norm of the displacement u via the Kirchhoff function M.
