Abstract

The first treatments of regular star polygons seem to date back to the fourteenth century, but an organic theory on the subject was presented only in the nineteenth century from the mathematician Louis Poinsot. After showing how the star polygons are closely linked to the concept of prime number, I introduce here some constructions, easily reproducible with geometry software, that allow us to investigate and see some nice and hidden property obtained by the scholars of the fourteenth century onwards.
